Trainer Rewards Program

BOSTON  – Horse trainers can now contribute to the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation (TRF) through the Trainer Rewards Program, a special arrangement among Suffolk Downs, Dodge Grain, and Cargill’s Nutrena® brand.

The Trainer Rewards Program is available for horse trainers at Suffolk Downs Race Track who purchase designated Nutrena® feeds from Dodge Grain, a retailer based in Salem, N.H. For every bag of designated Nutrena® feed purchased by a trainer in excess of 60 bags per month, Cargill will donate 50 cents to the TRF and give the trainer a rebate of 50 cents to use toward future Nutrena feed purchases.

Since its inception in 1982, the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation has rescued and retired more than 3,000 horses from possible abuse, neglect, or slaughter. Suffolk Downs, a thoroughbred racing venue in Boston that houses more than 1,000 horses in the height of racing season, actively supports thoroughbred retirement programs. “The Trainer Rewards Program will help make sure that the thoroughbreds that work hard and compete at Suffolk Downs will have a safe and healthy retirement when the time comes,” says Deb Correll, Nutrena brand manager. “This is a win for retired thoroughbreds.”
