Junkanoo
39 Starts:13 - 5 – 3, $66,089
It took months to get Junkanoo to relax and trust people. He would come at us with his ears pinned and teeth bared. We knew it was just a matter of letting him know that we were going to be nice to him. One of the inmates decided to work on him to get him to come around. He would just hug him and talk to him and tell him it was okay. Junkanoo finally figured it out. It was a great lesson for the inmate too.
The owner who had cancer was finally able to come and visit. She was so surprised! She said: "Well I don’t have to worry about him. He is in a good place." She saw him follow the guy around who had been working with him and he gave him a hug and the horse was very relaxed and sighed a big relaxed sigh. She said she had never seen him relaxed and happy before, she said it made her year.
Junkanoo lives at the Blackburn Correctional Center in Kentucky. Sponsors are welcome to visit by appointment.
