November 30 All day

Rick Edmunds in Front Royal, Virginia

#GivingTuesday, celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, kicks off the charitable season — a time when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving.

Giving Tuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to support causes and groups doing good.  Over the past seven years, it has grown into a global movement that inspires millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.

This year we are asking you to help us reach our #GIVINGTUESDAY goal of $20,000 to support the TRF Farrier Fund. That amount will cover the cost of about three months of blacksmith visits for the nearly 500 rescued and retired Thoroughbred racehorses in our care.

Why is the TRF Farrier Fund so important?

Horses need routine trimming of their hooves. Proper hoof care is essential for all horses, even those that are enjoying a quiet retirement.

The TRF has several blacksmiths, also known as farriers, who help care for our wonderful herd. Without proper care, hooves can become overgrown, which can result in chipping, deterioration, cracking, and splitting. These issues can be painful and can even lead to more serious health problems.

The adage “no hoof, no horse” is all too true. We are committed to keeping our herd happy and healthy and good hoof care is an important piece of that equation. Healthy hooves are essential to a happy horse. Please consider supporting this fund and this important work.
