ABOUT “CHEF” KENDRICK CARMOUCHE:
This popular jockey is a native of Vinton, LA. This is where he received his jockey’s license at age 16, to follow in the paths of his father, Sylvester, and brother, Sylvester III. In 2015, Kendrick was inducted into the Hall of Fame at Parx Racing (formerly Philadelphia Park), where he was leading rider from 2008 to 2011 and again in 2013. He ranked seventh among New York Racing Association jockeys in 2020. On Dec. 5, 2020, Kendrick earned his first Grade 1 win aboard True Timber in the Cigar Mile at Aqueduct. The next day, finished as the leading rider for the Big A’s fall meet. He finished 2020 as the seventh leading rider on the New York Racing Association circuit.
This year, 37-year-old Kendrick guided Bourbonic to a 72.25-1 upset in the Grade 2 Wood Memorial at Aqueduct to qualify for the Kentucky Derby, where he finished fifth. Kendrick broke his right ankle at Belmont Park on June 5, when he was unseated at the start of the last race on Belmont Stakes Day. The TRF and the Principessa Elena Society are grateful to Kendrick for sharing his time, his love for horses and his legendary cooking skills during his rehabilitation to benefit the 500 former racehorses in the TRF herd.
