Farms and Facilities
The TRF herd lives at 21 TRF thoroughbred retirement facilities across the country.
Nine of those farms are “TRF Second Chances Program” farms located at state correctional facilities where inmates participate in a vocational training program in equine care and stable management. At Healing Arenas in California, TRF horses are retrained for adoption and work daily in equine assisted therapy. At James Madison’s Montpelier, TRF farm manager Kim Wilkins maintains 50 horses with many adoptable for trail and pleasure riding. A number of our retirees also live at private farms whose owners receive a stipend allowing them to care for long-term retirees.
