To celebrate 35 years of providing sanctuary for former racehorses, the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation (TRF) is kicking off its 35 sponsors for 35 years horse sponsorship campaign, which launches Monday, May 1. Each day for the month of May, a horse in need of a sponsor will be featured in the media and donors will receive public recognition for their sponsorship donation. When donors sponsor a horse, much like sponsoring a child, they will receive information about that horse throughout the year.

Horse Sponsorship has several levels of giving. Starting at $250 a year; donors have the option to select their level of giving and also may opt to donate in monthly installments. Horse lovers enjoy choosing a horse of their “own” and getting to know that horse over time. According to Melanie H. who sponsors a horse at the TRF Second Chances program in Lexington, KY, “Being a TRF sponsor not only means you’re helping a horse find love, safety and purpose beyond the racetrack, you may even be helping that horse teach another person to find the same–to engage with life, perhaps for the first time ever, on a basis of trust, self-awareness, and respect.”

Horse sponsorship directly impacts the horses in the TRF herd by helping provide loving care for them over the course of their entire lifetime, and enabling the organization to continue with rescue, adoption, and TRF Second Chances programs.

“Horse Sponsorship is for people who especially love Thoroughbred horses, but don’t have one of their own.   It is a wonderful opportunity to support these deserving horses in a personal and meaningful way,” remarked Jennifer Stevens, TRF’s Director of Development and Communications.
