A unique Fall Harvest Festival experience

On Sunday, October 25, 2020, the community is invited to celebrate this beautiful time of year in Saratoga with an afternoon of Ponies, Pumpkins and Pies on a farm tour experience for the whole family. The inaugural event is a collaboration between the Saratoga-based Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation and Pitney Meadows Community Farm. Guests will enjoy a short Sunday drive around a winding pasture path full of ponies and preserved farmland.  The fun starts at noon and wraps up at 3:00 p.m. All guests must register in advance and remain in their cars throughout the event. The cost is $10.00 per car with the option to pre-order local pies and pumpkins.  Attendees are encouraged to add to the festive atmosphere by dressing in costume and each child will receive a goodie bag.

“The TRF is delighted to partner with Pitney Meadows Community Farm to bring some much needed joy to our community while raising awareness about these two important organizations.  PMCF is a jewel in our City that everyone in the region should embrace.   This collaboration is a natural fit as farming and horses have long been an important part of our society and we need to help preserve and save both.”

The event is sure to bring smiles while raising awareness about rescued and retired racehorses and the importance of farming in our community.

“Our farm is here for the community,” says Lynn Trizna, Executive Director of Pitney Meadows, “and we’re thrilled to partner with the TRF to welcome our neighbors to explore our land during the peak of fall along with these lovely retired thoroughbreds. It’s a wonderful Saratoga way of bringing people together and getting to know each other better.”

Guests will have a contact-free pick up of their pre-ordered goodies at the conclusion of the tour. Locally sourced pumpkins, gourds and/or Mourningkill Farm and Bake Shop pies of their choice! Pre-register and order your pumpkins and pies here: https://www.trfinc.org/event/ponies2020/

Sponsors are still needed and start at only $75.  Your participation will help brighten spirits and support two Saratoga-based nonprofits. Net proceeds will be divided equally between the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation and the Pitney Meadows Recreational Trails Program.  https://www.trfinc.org/event/ponies2020/

“Pitney Meadows Community Farm is excited to offer the opportunity of recreational use of the farm consistent with the commitment of the Commissioners of Saratoga Springs and our community,” says Peter Goutos, PMCF Founding Trustee and Chair of the Trails Committee.  “We are happy to partner with TRF and are grateful for their support of our trails development.”
About Pitney Meadows Community Farm: Our mission is to celebrate and explore agricultural education, healthy food production for our community and recreation on a preserved working farm. We grow together in our Community Gardens and offer a Pick-Your-Own CSA. Our fresh produce and those of neighboring farms are available at our Farm Stand. And we have an ongoing commitment to battle food insecurity in our area.  This season we grew and donated more than 18,000 pounds of food to local food pantries, senior programs, and other community organizations that feed the underserved. https://www.pitneymeadowscommunityfarm.org
