At this special time of year when we reflect on the past months, we’re reminded of all the kindness we’ve experienced over the year and recognize how much we have to be grateful for here at the TRF.  At the top of our list is the support we’ve received from our donors and friends, who responded to our appeals, participated in our re-imagined events, donated their time, sponsored a horse, helped spread the word, and sent notes of support.  For this we are humbled and extremely grateful.

Not only have we cared for the 500 retired Thoroughbreds in our herd thanks to your help, we’ve been able to reach out and help other Thoroughbreds in need.  In 2020, we rescued horses from dire circumstances, welcomed horses back to our herd when owners could no longer care for them, and adopted horses to safe and loving homes. We also forged new friendships and partnerships with like-minded organizations in order to find new ways to succeed and help more horses.

Because of your generosity, our barns are filled with hay for the winter and our horses are safe and sound at 15 farms across the country. With your help, we’ve added two Second Chances Programs that have already affected the lives of those we serve.

We are grateful for the privilege of caring for these special animals that gave so much during their racing careers and continue to warm our hearts and heal our souls, especially during these trying times. And to ensure that they receive the highest standard of care, we have achieved accreditation from the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries – a rigorous and comprehensive review of standards and best practices. We also look forward to renewing our accreditation from the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance in 2021.

Your generosity has allowed us to accomplish a great deal this year, but we recognize that the year ahead is filled with uncertainty and much work remains to be done.  Please consider a holiday gift so that we can continue the important work of saving horses and saving lives.  Together we can accomplish even more in the coming year.

Again, we thank you for your kindness and support.
