The Hoof Makes the Horse
Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation Launches Farrier Fund Campaign on GivingTuesday

Saratoga Springs, NY — On November 28, 2023, the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation (TRF) is set to participate in GivingTuesday, the global day of generosity. In preparation for this event, the TRF has launched a special campaign called the Farrier Fund Campaign.

GivingTuesday, which comes after the post-Thanksgiving shopping frenzy, signifies the start of the season of giving. It serves as a worldwide stage for organizations to garner backing for their missions. In the case of the TRF, the spotlight is on their vital Farrier Fund, a crucial campaign that plays a key role in securing funding for the essential hoof care requirements of over 400 rescued and retired Thoroughbred racehorses receiving dedicated care from the TRF.

The Farrier Fund Campaign, aptly themed “The Hoof makes the Horse,” aims to raise $25,000 this year. This fund will directly contribute to covering the costs of approximately three months of essential hoof care for over 1,600 hooves within the TRF herd. These funds are vital in ensuring that these majestic animals receive the top-notch care they deserve as they embark on their journey into retirement.

Not only does the Farrier Fund Campaign seek financial support, but it also aims to shine a spotlight on the often unsung heroes in equine care — the farriers. These dedicated professionals work tirelessly, caring for the hooves of our remarkable equine companions year-round, ensuring their well-being through all seasons.

As the TRF launches this ambitious one-day campaign, it extends an invitation to horse enthusiasts nationwide to participate in recognizing and celebrating the unsung heroes of equine well-being—farriers. These dedicated professionals tirelessly tend to our horses’ hooves throughout the year, braving all weather conditions to ensure the happiness and health of our equine companions. Join us in acknowledging the hard work and invaluable contributions of these farriers who play a pivotal role in the care and well-being of our equine friends.
